Xbox 360’s Kinect was first announced under the code name Project Natal on June 1, 2009 at E3 2009.
Kinect for Xbox 360 is a controller free gaming and entertainment experience by Microsoft for the Xbox360 video game console.

The name Natal was chosen because of two main reasons, to reflect Microsoft's view of the project as the birth of the next generation of home entertainment and because it was named after the Brazilian city of Natal as a tribute to the country Brazil by Microsoft director Alex Kipman, Who incubated the project.
Five demos were shown to showcase Kinect at Microsoft's E3 2009.
Ricochet, Paint Party, Milo & Kate, Mega Ring Ring and a demo based on Burnout Paradise, which celebrity and Hip Hop Rap star Soulja boi got a chance to test out that day.

With Kinect for Xbox360 you not only get the privilege to play control-free games but you also get your own remote-free living room entertainment set simply by giving hand gestures and voice control. Simply call out xbox and it “listens” to your command.
Could you imagine this in every home for Christmas?
I myself don’t care for the hand free gaming idea but the ability to jump through shows and scroll through your music hands free intrigues me.
It’s something like what I saw in the film, I Robot starring Will smith in the lead role of Del Spooner.
Where in one scene Bridget Moynahan said play, run, on to a JVC cd player expecting it to actually come on.

That was funny!
With the sale of 8 million units sold as of June 8, 2011 it would seem that the future is growing to be just that of the film.
